Can a collection agency change the account status of an account on your credit report from colelction to payed as agreed? Can this legally be negociated with the collection agnecy when paying off a collection account?|||You can possibly get the collection company to drop the collection from your credit bureau as part of your payment agreement. If your paying if full they just might do it.
If they agree? Get it in writing first before you pay them a thing.
As far as changing the account to read paid as agreed, that's another story all together because the lender that turned you over to the collection company in the first place is the only one that can change it.
You might try contacting the original lender and ask them. The worst that can happen is they will say no. But again if they agree, get it in writing before you pay any one anything.|||It is perfectly legal for a creditor to change/delete any listing that they made to your credit report.
There is no law preventing it. There is nothing in the terms of agreement between the credit bureau and the creditors. Trust me, I've researched this a lot....it's not there.
The only reason a creditor would refuse to do it is because they want to punish you.
Therefore, if they will not help you fix your credit, why are you considering paying the bill?
